How Can One Use ARCoptix IR Spectrometer for Transmission Measurement

Published: Thursday, 27 July 2023

The transmission FTIR sampling method is the most common and simple way in infrared spectroscopy. The infrared light is irradiated from one side of the sample, and transmit through the sample, and then be measured by the detector on the other side. Typically, researchers must made the sample into a tablet or film form factor, by the manual/automatic press . Prior to this, it requires IR matrix to be mixed and ground into powder (e.g. KBR).

The ARCoptix IR spectrometer series, presented by ACTTR in Taiwan, with rugged portability features. In addition to the advantage of USB power supply, compare to other brands of products, ARCoptix Rocket series also has with the Swiss state-of-art with the features of high-precision, calibration free benefits. Besides, it is an affordable FT-IR, FT-NIR, FT-MIR equipment for all the researchers with very good quality.

The following video will show you how easy to equip ARCoptix IR spectrometer products and finish the test in 5 minutes (first test).

If you wanted to use it outdoor, you can purchase ARCoptix USB-powered light source (lamp), and set up the system by the same way, and use one single fiber.

Set Up and Measurement Execution with ARCoptix IR Spectrometer

Equipment Requirements

  1. ARCoptix infrared spectrometer (FT-NIR, FT-IR, FT-MIR)
  2. USB cable Type-A (male) - Type-B (male), used to connect an infrared spectrometer and your computer (laptop or desktop machine)
  3. The light source and power supply
  4. Suitable for infrared transmission fiber tube (x2), if used ARCoptix special light, as long as a fiber optic tube, connecting cuvette holder and an infrared spectrometer.
  5. Cuvette holder
  6. Cuvette
  7. Sample

All equipment list, can see at 0 '25 " position of the video.

Installation

  1. The USB cable Type-B (square connector) end into the Rocket spectrometers, the other end of Type-A male connector into your computer. (0 '47 ").
  2. Open source and after the test, with a fiber optic tube is connected to a light color solution header (if used ARCoptix USB-powered light source, you can skip this step). (0 '54 ")
  3. Colorimetric tube holder of the other end, with a fiber optic tube is connected to ARCoptix near infrared spectrometer. (1 '35 ")
  4. About a minute to complete the installation (or removal of the work). That's why this series of products suitable for both indoor and outdoor reason. Installation process, compared with the desktop products, will not spend much time.

Initialization & Adjustment

  1. Open ARCoptix infrared spectrometer dedicated software (1 '57 ") and placed in the empty color tubes
  2. Press the scan button, measurement of infrared spectra, and light intensity adjustment appropriate zoom range (Connection Gain) (2 '20 ")
  3. At the same time repeatedly adjust light intensity, and the zoom range option to adjust the crest does not go into saturation condition. (2 '58 ")
  4. The correct reading value is set as a benchmark, that is, do zero action. Press the light bulb button to complete. (3 '28 ")
  5. Finally, press the T button to start penetrating measurement function, then press it again spectral scanning, has been determined to zero success (3 '36 ")

Start The Measurement

  1. The sample is injected into the colorimetric tube (4 '01 ")
  2. Press the Scan button in the software, the spectral scanning the sample, first get through the spectrum. After pressing "A", then converted to absorption spectra. (4 '24 ")
  3. You can switch between different display modes (4 '37 ")
  4. And may be a spectrum, with all kinds of notes and reference line (4 '54 ")
  5. Finally, the results are stored to file, or exported to a variety of file formats. (5 '04 ")

Just 5 minutes, we can complete the first experiment, including installation set up and executed.
