Ultraviolet-Visible, which is also known as UV/Visible, UV/Vis, UV-Vis, or UV-Visible. Most of the "UV/Vis Spectrophotometer" can measure the wavelength range of 190nm to 1100nm. To the wavelength below 340nm, is considered as ultraviolet region. The UV region is often used to measure the nucleic acid, purified proteins, or organic molecules.

An UV/Vis spectrophotometer has variety of different specific sample cell (sample chamber), and cuvette (sample tube), in order to accommodate a variety of different forms of samples. Some special sample cells is capable to hold multiple samples or allows automatic test and measurement.
